Why I Started TATE: The Stories Behind the Tours
Have you ever stood in a crowded city square or on a quiet hiking trail and felt like the ground was trying to tell you a secret? Have you ever wanted to share the experience with likeminded people, like we were all on a cool field trip (minus the sweaty school bus)? To be with those who love and admire history and how it relates to the humanity in all of us?
That feeling is exactly why I started Tag Along Tours East.
For years, I've found myself on many journeys, looking past the modern storefronts and paved roads, searching to find the echoes of the past. I always felt that history shouldn't be boring. It shouldn't stay trapped in textbooks or behind velvet ropes in museums. It belongs out here in the salt air of the shoreline of Connecticut, on the rugged cliffs of New Haven, on the streets of Beacon Hill, and on the busy corners of Lower Manhattan. To reach back in time to the cobblestones and the untold stories beneath.
More Than Just a Walk
When you tag along with me, we aren't just hitting a step goal (though your Fitbit will certainly be happy!) or hearing a lecture. We are stepping into a narrative.
Whether we are tracing the high-stakes Shadow War of Connecticut’s Revolutionary spies or walking in the footsteps of Revolutionary heroes in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York, my goal is to make the past feel present. I want you to hear the rustle of invisible ink letters and feel the tension of the British landing on our shores. The battles for freedom, and the personal adventures. Heroes and everyday people; patriots and traitors. Names known, and not very well known.
So join the journey and Tag Along!
History is a living thing, and it’s much more fun when we explore it together. There is never a prerequisite for my tours. You don’t need to be a history buff or have read every biography on the shelf. You don't need to attend that musical (wink), or watch Ken Burns, or have a degree. You just need a pair of comfortable shoes and a bit of curiosity. I will bring the rest.
I’ve spent countless hours in my life reading and going down the research rabbit holes on the topics that I am passionate about, and scouting trails to find the "hidden" bits of our local heritage. Now I want to share these stories with you.
So, what do you say? Ready to see what’s around the next corner?
Check out our Events Page for current tour events and let’s make some history of our own.
Let's follow in history's footsteps together.
